From the moment I walked through the door at BBDC the service was outstanding. Nothing was a problem. The staff looked after absolutely everything, and make you feel welcome and comfortable throughout the whole experience (even when I got sea sick 😷). I highly recommend using these guys. The dive tour was really good, unfortunately nature didn't provide the best visibility for my dives - but was still great to see some turtles, wobeegongs, and a bunch of other sea life.
Fantastic experience, awesome staff , excellent equipment, I started off with a refresher in the pool and then out to Julian rocks, the instructor made me feel really confident in the pool and then their guidance on the dive was awesome, thank you all from the instruction, the boat ride and the dive , couldn't have been any better. Cheers Ian McKenzie Victoria
I am so disappointed. If you are an advanced diver- do not chose this dive centre. They didn't ask how advanced we were, the didn't ask what we want from the dive. They chucked us in the water and showed me a sleeping blue groper. The most common fish in NSW... Every time I saw a turtle, a ray, shark, they would swim the other way. I love diving, its something I do a few times per week if I can, I know my stuff. Well I thought I did- and then I booked with this dive centre. Go to anyone else in Byron !
My expectations for Julian Rocks were high! But the experience exceeded those expectations for sure! The visability wasn't the best after several days of hard wind, but it was still incredible. We saw several wobbegong sharks (around 10 I think) sleeping, several turtles and a lot of beautiful fish and corals. Definitely one of the best dives I have done in Australia. The staff at Byron Bay Dive Centre was great too. I was the only one doing a certified dive and I had a guide and divebuddy/divemaster from the centre. They were highly professional and I felt very safe. They did a great job explaining what to expect and to make sure I felt safe and remembered all the important procedures. I would do another dive with them in a heartbeat and I would recommened it to everyone. Tip: It is a bit cheaper if you pay in cash ;)
My husband and I loved our dive at Julian Rocks! We were lucky and the rest of our boat was snorkeling so we had a private guided dive with Claudia. She was patient as we got started, found so many critters for us during the 50min dive, and seemed to be just as excited as us as we went along which was great we didn’t feel like a hassle. The flow at the shop was very organized especially given the COVID restrictions. We didn’t have to pick up a tank once (Even on the boat!), had plenty of space for storing things while we were out, and had a warm shower available for after. The rental gear was all decent quality, no issues there. Overall great experience with tons of sharks, turtles, rays, and beautiful fish!
Very capable team of permanent staff and interns provided a professional service with all equipment and training supplied. A shore dive to Tassie III wreck as well as a short boat trip to Jullian Rocks are available options. Day and night dives. Heaps of aquatic wild life to see; a completely new world under the ocean surface. Highly recommended.
Beautiful conditions at Julian over the weekend. Friendly and helpful staff as always. Three turtles along with a diverse range of colourful coral and fish. Have been diving at BBDC since 2010. Always a fantastic experience. Highly recommend.
Went to Byron Bay not expecting to dive, but decided to last minute, hence did not have my usual gear. Byron Bay Dive Center can provide all your gear, but the fins are rubbish and masks are one size fits all. Too bad if they don’t fit you well, they simply don’t have any alternatives. I struggled with the gear on my first dive, but got through it. I aborted the second dive during the descent due to my sinuses being full of water on account of an ill fitting mask and my feet being cut up by bad fitting fins on the first dive. No refund of course. It’s a good dive site with good crew and facilities. It’s a shame to have it rather critically flawed by poor basic equipment. I know I should have taken my own mask and fins, which would have prevented the issue. But on the other hand Byron Bay Dive Center offers full equipment rental - and while that’s technically true, it’s poor quality and lead to a strong disappointment in this case. It should be noted that their wetsuits, BCDs and regulators were all good, just the masks and fins that are horribly flawed. I recommend going, but only if you have your own.
